Visa joins MAS-led BLOOM initiative, with Nium to pilot stablecoin settlement

Visa said it is joining BLOOM, an initiative led by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), as part of an effort to expand settlement capabilities for financial institutions and improve interoperability between traditional payment systems and stablecoin payment rails. BLOOM stands for Borderless, Liquid, Open, Online, Multi-currency. Under the framework, institutions are expected to gain access to faster and programmable payment functions while keeping existing safeguards around security and compliance. Visa said Nium will become the first partner under the BLOOM framework and will work with the payments company on a pilot that uses stablecoins for settlement. The pilot will examine whether cross-border fund flows can be handled more efficiently while relying on Visa’s payment network and its security and compliance capabilities. The two companies also plan to study the use of stablecoins for seven-day settlement, including weekends and public holidays, with the stated aim of cutting delays and improving efficiency. The pilot will support regulated stablecoins backed by major currencies, including U.S. dollar- and euro-denominated tokens.

Correspondent Banking Still Sits at the Core of Global Payments as Access Expands and Settlement Concentrates

A long-form market analysis by Payment201 argues that the visible layer of global payments is becoming more open, faster and more software-driven, while the balance-sheet layer that actually moves money is concentrating around a small group of transaction banks, clearing systems and liquidity providers. The piece says cross-border payments are often misunderstood as a messaging problem shaped by SWIFT, card networks or gateways, when the harder issue is where the money sits and which institution is willing to place it on its balance sheet. It also examines how network value depends less on country count than on node quality and path length, why payment firms entering new markets need direct local connectivity rather than map coverage, and how de-risking has strengthened major hubs such as JPM, Citi, HSBC and Standard Chartered. The article also points to deeper overseas expansion by Chinese banks, especially in correspondent banking and liquidity provision, and argues that stablecoins improve the settlement layer but do not automatically solve FX, liquidity, compliance or market access. Its central claim is that the real contest in global payments is not only about checkout, APIs or fees, but about balance sheet capacity, institutional trust, clearing access and financial connectivity.

Circle misses Q2 revenue estimates as Arc, agent products take center stage

Circle reported 2026 second-quarter revenue and reserve income of $701 million before the U.S. market opened on Aug. 5, up 7% from a year earlier but below Wall Street consensus of roughly $713 million. Adjusted EBITDA came in at $143 million, up 8%, while diluted EPS was $0.18, above the expected $0.16. Net income reached $48.2 million, compared with a $482.1 million loss in the prior-year period, which the company said was largely due to a one-time stock-based compensation expense tied to its IPO in the second quarter of last year. USDC ending circulation stood at $73.3 billion, up 19% year over year, while on-chain transaction volume rose 151% to $14.8 trillion. Circle also highlighted new regulatory approvals, growth in CPN and Agent Stack, and the upcoming Sept. 16 public mainnet launch of Arc. On the earnings call, management said the Coinbase distribution agreement had been renewed on existing terms, discussed revenue sharing with Hyperliquid, and detailed ARC token presale figures, including about $242 million raised and roughly $180 million expected to be recognized as 2026 revenue.

Circle posts $48 million Q2 profit as CRCL investors weigh USDC pressure against Arc and regulatory expansion

Circle Internet Group reported second-quarter revenue and reserve income of $701 million, up 7% year over year, with net income from continuing operations reaching $48 million after a loss in the prior-year period. The company also posted adjusted EBITDA of $143 million, while quarter-end USDC circulation stood at $73.3 billion and on-chain transaction volume hit $14.8 trillion. The numbers showed that Circle still depends heavily on USDC supply and interest rates, even as growth in circulation slowed and net outflows appeared during the quarter. At the same time, the company used its earnings report to highlight a broader push into regulated financial infrastructure, including the Sept. 16 launch of Arc mainnet, an expanding Circle Payments Network, Agent Stack products, and new trust-bank approvals in the U.S. The market response to CRCL remains split. Morgan Stanley cut its rating and target price, citing slower USDC growth and rising distribution costs, while TD Cowen initiated coverage with a buy rating. Investors are also watching the proposed CLARITY Act and upcoming September catalysts as they assess whether Circle’s longer-term infrastructure strategy can offset near-term pressure on reserve-driven earnings.

Crypto Is Growing Beyond Speculation Into the Rails of a New Financial System

A Foresight analysis argues that four themes often treated as separate crypto narratives — real-world assets, stablecoins, prediction markets and agentic payments — are beginning to connect into a broader financial stack. The piece says the shift is not about a single hot sector, but about multiple components maturing at the same time: programmable money, tokenized assets, continuous price discovery, machine-native payments, identity controls and legal recognition. The article points to a series of developments in 2026. Stablecoin supply has reached about $300 billion. The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, or DTCC, completed tokenized asset conversions in a production environment and plans a formal service launch in October. Prediction markets are moving beyond crypto-native venues into brokerages and regulated exchanges. AI agents are also starting to buy data, model calls and digital services with stablecoins. Using examples from Circle, Nium, DTCC, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Robinhood, Coinbase, Google, J.P. Morgan, Visa and Mastercard, the article argues that crypto still carries a strong speculative layer. But underneath it, a more complete execution system is taking shape — one that may be used by traditional financial institutions, real-world assets and software agents alike. The piece also stresses that key gaps remain, especially around legal finality, liability, privacy, fragmented liquidity and credit creation.

Crypto Week Ahead: Circle and SpaceX Earnings, Major Token Unlocks, and Shutdowns for Zapper and Ctrl Wallet

The coming week carries a dense schedule for crypto markets and adjacent sectors. Circle, SpaceX, Hut 8, and American Bitcoin are all set to release quarterly results, while token unlocks for Succinct (PROVE), Ethena (ENA), and Hyperliquid (HYPE) are also on the calendar. At the same time, several products and services are approaching end-of-life milestones, including DeFi dashboard Zapper, crypto wallet Ctrl Wallet, and Polygon liquid staking token MaticX. Exchanges are making changes as well: Binance will stop supporting the Sophon mainnet and migrate SOPH to Ethereum on a 1:1 basis, and Coinbase plans to suspend trading in IDEX, LRC, OMNI, PIRATE, and FIS. The week also includes Polymarket’s shift to TWAP-based settlement for crypto up/down markets, a planned compensation update from AFX Trade after its bridge exploit, and an upcoming XRP Ledger software release that restores revised features previously removed over security flaws. Macro data are also due, with the U.S. set to publish July unemployment, nonfarm payrolls, and wage figures on Aug. 7.
