Solana merges SIMD-0567 proposal to replace the current ATA program with p-ATA
The Solana Foundation has merged proposal SIMD-0567 into the main branch, setting up a planned replacement of the current Associated Token Account, or ATA, program with an optimized version called p-ATA built on Pinocchio. The stated goal is to cut compute unit consumption and improve execution efficiency. Earlier benchmark tests from developers showed that p-ATA reduced transaction execution time by about 35% compared with the legacy program. The tests also found that when a Rent Sysvar account is provided, compute unit usage drops further. That comes with a tradeoff: actual execution time rises slightly, bringing transaction-level time savings back to around 1%. The proposal was merged 17 hours ago, but that merge does not mean the Solana mainnet has already switched programs. The new program still needs to be deployed through the network’s established migration process.
