St. Cloud Financial Credit Union Rolls Out Core-Integrated Digital Asset Platform for Members

St. Cloud Financial Credit Union (SCFCU) has launched CU-Digital Asset Vault™, a digital-asset platform built for credit union members. Integrated directly with the credit union’s core systems through DaLand CUSO’s Coin2Core™ architecture, the platform allows members to hold and manage digital assets like Bitcoin while keeping data, governance, and member relationships under the credit union’s control. SCFCU says the model combines member asset ownership with institutional safeguards, compliance support, and long-term service expansion potential.

St. Cloud Financial Credit Union Passes 12.6 BTC in Custody and Expands Its Bitcoin Service Strategy

St. Cloud Financial Credit Union (SCFCU) has passed a notable milestone in its digital asset pilot, now safeguarding more than 12.6 BTC on behalf of members, along with smaller amounts of ether and USDC. The early traction came just weeks after the launch of its CU-Digital Asset Vault™, a service made available to a membership base of more than 28,000 people. Unlike institutional custody programs built around large corporate balances, this rollout highlights grassroots adoption by everyday users who prefer to keep digital assets within a trusted local financial institution rather than relying only on exchanges or full self-custody. At the center of the initiative is a hybrid self-custody model. Members retain control of their bitcoin while using infrastructure integrated into the credit union’s core systems. SCFCU positions this model as a middle path between the risks of total self-management and the dependency of conventional third-party custody. CEO Jed Meyer says the strategy is designed to keep the credit union at the center of members’ financial lives as digital assets become more embedded in the broader financial system. The platform is currently limited to members, but SCFCU plans to expand access to businesses and additional markets in the coming months. Beyond custody, the institution is also exploring bitcoin-enabled payments, lending products, transaction services, network connectivity, and credit-related use cases. The Vault additionally supports board-level oversight, regulatory alignment, transaction monitoring, and risk management, signaling that SCFCU views digital assets not as a side experiment, but as a long-term extension of community banking infrastructure.
