U.S. equities closed with a mixed tone in the latest session, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average gaining more than 1%, the S&P 500 finishing flat, and the Nasdaq falling 0.80%. On a month-to-date basis for July, the Dow was up 1.14%, the S&P 500 was unchanged, and the Nasdaq was down 0.80%, underscoring a divergence in sector leadership rather than a uniform market trend. Precious metals names were among the strongest performers. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) both advanced more than 2%, while Barrick Gold (GOLD), Newmont (NEM), VanEck Gold Miners ETF (GDX), First Majestic Silver (AG), and Coeur Mining (CDE) posted gains ranging from over 3% to more than 4%. In contrast, crypto-related equities came under heavy pressure. Cipher Mining (CIFR) dropped more than 12%, Hut 8 (HUT) lost over 8%, and Riot Platforms (RIOT), CleanSpark (CLSK), and MARA Holdings (MARA) each fell more than 7%, with Bit Brother (BTBT) down over 6%. Even so, the segment was not uniformly weak: Bitmine (BMNR) rose more than 1%, Coinbase (COIN) gained over 3%, Circle (CRCL) added more than 4%, and Strategy (MSTR) climbed more than 7%, highlighting continued dispersion inside crypto-linked U.S. equities.
