Goldman Sachs refreshes its high-conviction U.S. buy list, adds Vertex and removes Interactive Brokers

Goldman Sachs updated its U.S. high-conviction buy list for September, keeping the roster at 23 stocks while adding Vertex Pharmaceuticals and removing Interactive Brokers Group. In its Sept. 1 monthly report, the bank said the entire gain in U.S. equities during August was concentrated in the first two trading days of the month. After that, markets drifted into a summer trading range, with risk assets lacking a clear direction even after Nvidia delivered strong earnings. Goldman said the 10-year Treasury yield rose 9 basis points from the start of the month, Brent crude was little changed, and gold, silver and Bitcoin gained 9%, 22% and 24%, respectively. Against what it described as a catalyst vacuum, the firm argued that better opportunities may lie in companies undergoing material change that could set a new direction for the fourth quarter. Goldman highlighted Vertex as the most notable addition, with analyst Salveen Richter pointing to five potential multi-billion-dollar commercial opportunities across cystic fibrosis, pain, kidney disease, hematology and endocrinology. The report also reviewed strong August performers such as Estée Lauder, DoorDash and TPG, while maintaining buy views on laggards including Viking Holdings and Applied Materials despite recent stock pressure.

Kakao Mobility seeks Nasdaq listing at valuation of up to $1 billion

Kakao Mobility, the ride-hailing and mobility unit under South Korea’s Kakao, is seeking a Nasdaq listing that could value the company at as much as $1 billion, according to Techub News, which cited Crypto Briefing. The reported listing plan is aimed at creating an exit path for existing investor TPG. The move also points to a broader pattern in which international technology companies use U.S. capital markets to facilitate exits for strategic investors. While the report did not disclose a timeline, pricing range, or offering structure, it framed the potential U.S. listing as part of a capital-markets route tied to shareholder liquidity rather than an operating update. No additional deal terms were provided in the source digest.

Apate says its 200,000 AI scam-bait bots are tying up fraudsters and gathering crypto intelligence

Australian tech firm Apate says it has built nearly 200,000 AI personas designed to pose as plausible scam victims across phone calls, social media and messaging apps, with the aim of tying up fraudsters and collecting useful intelligence. Founder Dali Kaafar told Cointelegraph Magazine that the company handles hundreds of thousands of calls and conversations a day, and even tracks how often angry scammers swear at the bots as a monthly KPI. In the six weeks leading up to the end of 2025, Apate said its bots handled 600,000 scam calls for Australian telco TPG, wasting more than 500 days of scammers’ time and equating to roughly $13 million in prevented losses. The company says its systems are also used to extract actionable data for banks, telcos and a blockchain analysis client, including newly used crypto wallet addresses and scam methods before funds move. Kaafar said the idea began after he spent 44 minutes stringing along a scam caller during a family picnic in Sydney in November 2021. The project later received funding from Australia’s Office of National Intelligence, spun out of Macquarie University in 2023, and now works with major Australian banks as well as banks in the UK, South Africa and Southeast Asia.
