meme@HK opens submissions for Hong Kong-themed works with on-chain release options

ULTIMEDIA and ULTILAND have launched meme@HK, a Hong Kong-themed meme creation initiative backed by the Federation of Hong Kong Design and Creative Industries. The project is open to creators working across images, music, short video, text and original characters, with AI tools allowed but not required. In the article, author Stark frames the effort as a way to let today’s creators tell Hong Kong stories in their own voice rather than stopping at nostalgia or familiar symbols such as Lion Rock. The piece also links the city’s creative character to its migrant, industrial and working-class history, and references the 1972 television series "Below the Lion Rock" and Liu Yichang’s serialized novel "Intersection" as examples of how different Hong Kong narratives can coexist. The planned Meme Gallery, described as a city culture on-chain archive, will organize references from urban history, street life and pop culture. Participants will also be able to issue ARTmeme works through ULTILAND and connect them to on-chain issuance records, while commemorative NFTs will offer another way to discover and collect works. FHKDCI will work with the project on cultural creation, provenance, youth creator development, salons and physical exhibitions.
