Bitcoin Trails Stock Rally as Hawkish Fed Hold Pushes Rate-Cut Hopes Further Out

Crypto ended July on weaker footing even as U.S. stocks rallied, with Bitcoin sliding 3.5% over 24 hours to $62,464 and Ether losing 3.1% to $1,863, according to CoinGecko. The pullback came after the Federal Reserve held rates at 3.50%–3.75% for a fifth straight meeting and delivered a notably hawkish signal: the vote was 9-3, and all three dissenters — Beth Hammack, Neel Kashkari and Lorie Logan — favored a hike. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said the committee would not soften its inflation stance, while fresh data showed June PCE inflation at 3.7% year over year and core PCE at 3.3%, both still well above the 2% target. With second-quarter GDP growth at 3.0% and new tariffs set to take effect Aug. 7, markets saw little in the data that would force a policy pivot. ETF flows improved, but not enough to change the broader tone: spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $233.1 million on Thursday after four days of outflows, while derivatives positioning, weak August seasonality, losses at Strategy, and a Coldcard wallet flaw that led to the theft of 594 BTC kept pressure on sentiment.

World Foundation closes $52.5 million WLD token sale led by Pantera Capital

The World Foundation, the nonprofit behind the World protocol, said it has completed a $52.5 million strategic sale of WLD tokens led by Pantera Capital, with Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital and Susquehanna Crypto also participating. All tokens sold in the transaction are subject to a one-year lock-up. On-chain analyst EmberCN said the foundation transferred roughly 217.4 million WLD to participating institutions about eight hours before the announcement, implying an average price of around $0.24 per token, or about a 26% discount to the current market price. CoinMarketCap data cited in the report puts WLD at about $0.326, with a circulating market capitalization of roughly $1.22 billion and a fully diluted valuation of about $3.24 billion. The sale follows another large token deal disclosed in March and comes as World pushes broader adoption of World ID across consumer platforms, enterprise use cases and AI agents. At the same time, the project continues to face scrutiny over compliance, biometric data collection and past internal investigations tied to Tools for Humanity, the for-profit company associated with the ecosystem.

World enters Phase 3 and extends proof-of-human verification to AI agents

World, the iris-scanning identity project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, said on July 24 that it has moved into Phase 3 of its five-stage roadmap. The shift changes the network’s focus from driving signups with WLD token rewards to selling proof-of-human verification, including for AI agents that act on behalf of users. World said it has issued more than 18 million human credentials and enabled more than 450 million uses of World ID, with the new phase defined in its founding framework as the point of reaching critical scale and initial utility. The company is also pushing AgentKit, a toolkit built around agent delegation, human-in-the-loop verification, and agentic commerce, while pursuing integrations with Okta, Vercel, Shopify, Coinbase, Exa, and Browserbase. On the consumer side, verification is now live on Tinder, while Reddit has shown interest in privacy-first checks for accounts flagged as automated. For enterprises, World said Zoom is expected to offer its Deep Face verification through the ISV platform within six months. The business model is shifting as well: applications will pay World ID fees, end users will continue to use the protocol for free, and rewards may come as product perks rather than tokens.

Weekly project roundup: Worldcoin sells WLD at a 36% discount, Movement files for bankruptcy

This week’s project developments span token sales, shutdowns, hacks, protocol upgrades, and new product launches across crypto and adjacent sectors. Robinhood Chain reached $700 million in onchain assets three weeks after launch, with $430 million in stablecoins and about $500 million in TVL. Worldcoin Foundation sold 217.4 million WLD to institutions including Pantera Capital for about $52.5 million, implying a price near $0.24 per token, roughly 36% below the current market price, with a one-year lock-up. Movement has filed for bankruptcy after its onchain apps generated less than $800 in daily revenue for an extended period since last November, while daily chain fees stayed in the single digits and were just $1 over the past 24 hours. In another major incident, Wanchain’s Cardano bridge was hit by a suspected exploit that moved roughly 515 million NIGHT, valued at about $9 million, out of the bridge vault. Elsewhere, Stripe is in advanced talks to acquire OpenRouter at a valuation that could reach $10 billion. Odos said it will shut down operations and permanently close all services on July 30. Uniswap introduced a v4 Hook standard for permissioned pools, LayerZero partnered with Keeta on tokenized bank-deposit transfers, PumpFun’s developer posted a growth leadership role with a base salary of up to $1 million, and Jito launched the self-custodial Solana trading platform JTX.

Stablecoin exchange inflows hit 2025 low as U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs post $240 million daily outflow

PANews’ July 25 daily roundup collected a broad set of crypto regulatory, market, project, funding, and data developments, led by two market signals: analysts said stablecoin inflows to exchanges have fallen to their lowest level of 2025, while U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded a combined net outflow of $240 million on July 24, with BlackRock’s IBIT accounting for $212 million of that figure. The report also covered a Hong Kong court sentencing Xiao Rui, son of former Wuhan supervisory official Xiao Jun, to six years and nine months in prison in a money-laundering case involving more than HK$64 million; Thailand’s SEC filing criminal complaints against Bitkub Online and two former directors over disclosures tied to a 2021 theft; and India’s move to ask GitHub to remove repositories for Bitchat, an offline messaging app backed by Jack Dorsey. On the project and corporate side, PANews highlighted Robinhood’s talks with Crypto.com on prediction markets, Across Protocol’s post-mortem on a relayer incident, LayerZero’s plan to wind down support for 20 low-activity chains, Phantom’s scheduled end of support for Monad, BlackRock’s transfer of about 3,126 BTC to Coinbase Prime, Circle’s mint of 250 million USDC, and World Foundation’s $52.5 million strategic WLD sale led by Pantera Capital. The roundup also included updates on Anduril, LMAX, B2C2, Capital Group, ARK, Kinetic Group, Bitcoin volatility, and Hyperliquid buybacks.

Brazil prosecutors sue Tools for Humanity and AWS unit over paid iris collection, seek R$240 million

Prosecutors in São Paulo state have filed a public civil lawsuit against Tools for Humanity Corporation, the developer tied to World Network, and Amazon AWS Serviços Brasil, alleging the companies illegally collected iris biometric data from more than 400,000 people in exchange for financial compensation. The São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking at least R$240 million in collective moral damages, roughly $47 million, and is asking the court to permanently ban the practice of offering money for iris data. Prosecutor Patrícia Leitão also requested an injunction to preserve all records, metadata, contracts, and technical reports tied to the handling of the biometric information, while seeking clarity on which Amazon group entity actually hosted the data. The case builds on an earlier order from Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority, which on Jan. 24, 2025 told Tools for Humanity to stop offering cryptocurrency or other compensation for Brazilians’ iris scans, and on a 161-page São Paulo city council report that cited serious violations across data protection, consumer protection, and financial regulation.

Worldcoin multisig wallet moved $13.84 million in WLD to two new addresses

Worldcoin transferred WLD worth $13.84 million from a multisig address to two newly created addresses, according to on-chain analyst @ai_9684xtpa cited by ChainCatcher. The tracked upstream address had actually received 60 million WLD, while only 36.94 million WLD were sent out in this transaction. So far, the receiving addresses have not moved the tokens further and no selling activity has been observed. The update was presented as an on-chain monitoring alert rather than a broader market analysis, and the available details were limited to the transfer amount, the number of recipient addresses, the size of the upstream inflow, and the current status of the receiving wallets.
