Ethereum ICO Whale Moves 2,000 ETH to Coinbase After 6,060x Gain

An Ethereum ICO whale has deposited its entire ETH position into Coinbase, according to data from on-chain monitor Yujin. The address participated in Ethereum's initial coin offering in 2015, buying in at an average price of $0.311 per token. On August 13, it transferred 2,000 ETH — worth roughly $3.77 million — to the exchange. Yujin's monitoring shows the deposit covered the full balance of the address, with the complete 2,000 ETH holding moved in the transfer. The implied per-token value of the deposit is approximately $1,885, far above the $0.311 ICO price the whale paid back in 2015. The $622 starting value corresponds to the 2,000 ETH position acquired at that average entry price. Over the 11 years since the original purchase, the position's value climbed from $622 to $3.77 million, a floating gain of about 6,060 times the initial outlay. The move from the ICO wallet to the exchange was flagged by Yujin and reported by BlockBeats on August 13.

Bitcoin Whale's 40x Short Stopped Out Again, Unrealized Loss Hits $1.54M

A highly leveraged bitcoin short position has come under renewed pressure as the price of BTC rose. According to a BlockBeats report on Aug 7, on-chain monitor Yujin flagged a whale that had shorted 1,600 BTC two days earlier, with leverage reported at 40x. The position had a notional value of roughly $102 million. As bitcoin rebounded to $65,300, the account was stopped out once again. The latest cut closed 500 BTC, about $32.6 million. Combined with earlier stop-losses forced by the bounce, 700 of the original 1,600 BTC shorted have now been closed. What remains is a 900 BTC short, worth approximately $58.66 million. On the morning the whale entered the trade, the margin stood at $2.44 million. That amount has since fallen to roughly $900,000, an unrealized loss of $1.54 million, or about 63% of the starting capital. The whale's short is still partially open.
