Nearly 1700 UK Investors Sue Binance and CZ for £150M Over Unauthorized Crypto Derivatives

According to Reuters, nearly 1700 UK investors have filed a lawsuit in the High Court of London against crypto exchange Binance and its founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ), alleging that since 2019, Binance entities sold high-risk crypto derivatives to UK retail investors without authorization, violating the Financial Services and Markets Act. The claimants seek at least £150 million (approximately $200 million) in damages, with some claiming losses of tens of thousands of pounds. Binance declined to comment on the ongoing litigation but stated it will vigorously defend itself. The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) had banned the sale of crypto derivatives to retail investors in 2021.
