Galaxy Digital buys 500 acres in McGregor, Texas for second AI and HPC data center campus

Galaxy Digital said it has acquired roughly 500 acres in McGregor, Texas, for what it described as its second large-scale artificial intelligence and high-performance computing data center campus in the state, according to The Block. The project will move forward with the City of McGregor and local partners. Its first phase is planned at 74 MW, with power delivery expected in 2028 and a later expansion target of several hundred megawatts by 2030. Galaxy said the development is expected to add at least $130 million to the local tax base. CEO Mike Novogratz said the company has spent the past several years proving out a model of long-term collaboration between privately owned data centers and rural communities at its Helios site in Dickens County, Texas. He said the McGregor campus is the next step in Galaxy’s strategy to build a multi-campus data center business. Galaxy bought the Helios bitcoin mining site in West Texas in 2022 and has since shifted toward AI and high-performance computing. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, has already approved an expansion of Helios to 1.63 GW, and that capacity has been leased to AI cloud computing company CoreWeave for 15 years.

TSMC reportedly plans wafer foundry price hikes in 2027, with extra premiums for added HPC orders

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is reportedly preparing to raise wafer foundry prices starting in 2027, according to Nikkei. The reported increase would apply to both advanced and mature process nodes, with pricing changes ranging from 5% to 10% depending on the customer and product. For customers that place additional high-performance computing, or HPC, chip orders beyond their original forecasts, the company is also said to charge an added premium of 10% to 15%, pushing total increases on some advanced-node orders above 10%. The report said the new pricing would take effect in early 2027. TSMC has not responded to the pricing speculation. Nikkei attributed the move to several cost pressures, including higher raw material prices, rising semiconductor equipment procurement costs, and spending on overseas fab construction. The company is adding $100 billion in investment to its Arizona site and has raised its 2026 capital expenditure target to as much as $64 billion. Earlier, during rising tensions between Iran and Israel, TSMC also warned that supplies of key gases could be affected. Chairman C.C. Wei has said TSMC would not raise prices in the way memory makers sometimes do, arguing that sudden fourfold or fivefold increases would make it hard for customers to survive.
