Nine AI startups reportedly hit unicorn status within months as investors price founders before products

MarsBit, citing a report from the WeChat account IT Juzi, said at least nine AI startups in China and overseas had crossed the unicorn threshold within six months of being founded as of early September 2026. The list spans China’s Yuyong Technology, Kunlunxing Robotics, AGILINK and Naive.ai, as well as River AI, Hark, AMI Labs, Recursive Superintelligence and Atoms abroad. The report argues that many of these companies were funded before products, revenue or commercial validation were in place, with capital instead assigning value to founder track records, technical direction and ecosystem positioning. Cases highlighted include Yuyong Technology reaching an about $2 billion valuation roughly three months after registration, AGILINK becoming the only company in the group already generating revenue, AMI Labs raising what the report described as Europe’s largest seed round, and River AI securing $1.1 billion within about two months of surfacing. The piece says the current market is rewarding scarcity first and waiting for proof later, while warning that delivery risk, ecosystem dependence and lofty expectations could make the next 12 to 24 months decisive for these companies.

Why Primary Market Capital Is Chasing "Certainty" as 19 New $10 Billion-Plus Unicorns Emerge

China’s primary market is showing a sharp split in 2026. While venture investors are still grappling with hard fundraising and even harder exits, money is no longer flowing evenly across the market. Instead, capital is crowding into a small group of sectors that appear to offer clearer paths to value realization, including large AI models, embodied intelligence, fusion, and quantum computing. According to incomplete statistics cited from Yicai, China added 19 embodied intelligence companies with valuations above RMB 10 billion in the first half of 2026 alone. Several, including Galaxy General, Zibianliang, Zhipingfang, and Xinghaitu, have already crossed RMB 20 billion. In AI, Moonshot AI’s valuation rose from about $10 billion at the start of the year to $35 billion after a July Series F of more than $3.5 billion, and its disclosed target pre-IPO valuation later climbed to $50 billion. The article argues that what investors are increasingly paying for is not just long-term technology upside. They are also paying for nearness to exit, public-market valuation benchmarks, scarcity in favored sectors, and the expectation that the next financing round will come at a higher price. That shift, it says, means risk in the primary market has not disappeared. It has moved from technology uncertainty toward valuation and exit risk.

KB Financial Group sets up 150 billion won fund for AI, semiconductors and other strategic sectors

KB Financial Group has announced the launch of the KB Kookmin Growth Unicorn Scale-up Fund, a 150 billion won vehicle, or about $108 million, funded entirely with capital from the group’s subsidiaries. Management of the fund has been assigned to the PE Growth Investment Division of KB Securities. According to the announcement, the fund will focus on companies in AI, semiconductors, secondary batteries, aerospace, mobility, robotics and biotech, with the stated aim of fostering unicorns in advanced strategic industries. The decision was finalized at the fourth Production Finance Consultative Meeting held on July 24. KB Financial also rolled out a financing support plan tied to the government’s three “super projects,” covering semiconductors, power infrastructure investment, and support for physical AI companies and AI data centers. In parallel, the group said it plans to use its CIB center as a hub to identify innovative regional small and medium-sized enterprises, while shifting corporate assessment practices away from models centered on financial statements and historical performance toward frameworks that weigh technological strength and future growth potential.

IT Juzi Maps the Angel-Round Winners in China’s AI and Embodied Intelligence Unicorn Boom

A new report from IT Juzi says China added 67 unicorns in the first half of 2026, with AI and embodied intelligence companies accounting for more than half of the total. The research then examined all 107 unicorns currently on its list in China’s AI and robotics/embodied intelligence sectors, tracing every investor that appeared in seed, angel and angel-plus rounds. As of July 2026, nearly 300 institutions had backed at least one unicorn at the angel stage, according to the report. By total count, Sequoia China ranked first with 11 angel-round hits, followed by GL Ventures and ZhenFund with nine each. But when the sample is narrowed to new embodied intelligence bets made after 2022, MiraclePlus, Linear-like early-stage specialist Lanchi Ventures, and SEE Fund stand out for concentrated exposure. The report also breaks down how those firms operated. MiraclePlus used a high-volume accelerator-style model with standardized checks and small initial tickets; Lanchi built founder-sourcing channels through its BuMing camp and AGI Pioneer Club; SEE Fund leaned on a tight engineering network around Tsinghua-linked founders while building positions across the embodied intelligence supply chain. IT Juzi argues that U.S. dollar funds still moved earlier overall, while many RMB funds only began entering the sector at scale after 2025.
