Lighter Adds weETH as Collateral for Perpetual Futures Trading

Decentralized perpetuals protocol Lighter has added weETH as an eligible collateral asset for perpetual contract trading on its platform, according to ChainCatcher. Under the new parameters, the platform will recognize 70% of weETH’s index value toward trading margin, applying a 30% haircut to the asset. Lighter also set a platform-wide cap of 1,000 weETH for collateral supply. With the change now in place, users can use weETH as margin to open perpetual futures positions on Lighter. The update expands the set of assets accepted for margin on the protocol while defining both valuation and supply limits for the newly supported collateral.

ether.fi says WEETH has no exposure to Ethereum node operator security incident

ether.fi said on X that it is aware of an earlier security incident involving an Ethereum node operator, but added that WEETH has no exposure to the issue and will not be affected. The protocol said all funds remain safe. Earlier the same day, MetaMask said it was handling a security incident affecting part of its infrastructure. According to MetaMask, there is currently no evidence of any direct threat to MetaMask wallets. As a precaution, the company said it is working with customers, partners and security advisers to proactively move affected validators in order to protect the safety of its non-custodial staking business. The statements were cited by ChainCatcher in a market analysis newsflash.

weETH deposits on Aave V3 top $4 billion, becoming the protocol’s second-largest asset

weETH, a liquid staking token, has surpassed $4 billion in total deposits on Aave V3, according to Techub News. That makes it the second-largest asset on the lending protocol, behind only Ethereum. The update points to a larger role for liquid staking tokens inside DeFi lending markets, where they are gaining weight as collateral and deposit assets. Crypto Briefing said the pace of weETH’s growth highlights that shift and could alter related strategies and market dynamics. The report did not provide additional breakdowns on deposit sources or a detailed timeline beyond the latest milestone.

ether.fi Turns weETH Into Pure LST, Moves Restaking to Symbiotic-Backed weETHs

ether.fi has removed all restaking exposure from weETH, converting it into a pure liquid staking token (LST), the protocol said on X. All restaking functions have been transferred to weETHs, a liquid restaking token (LRT) backed by Symbiotic, according to the same announcement. The change splits ether.fi's two tokens along staking and restaking lines: weETH now handles pure staking, while the restaking layer lives on weETHs.

ether.fi strips restaking from weETH and moves closer to a full EigenLayer exit

ether.fi has removed all restaking exposure from weETH, turning its flagship asset into a plain liquid staking token while isolating restaking in weETHs, a separate token built on Symbiotic. The move breaks up the structure that once made ether.fi the biggest business built on EigenLayer’s restaking model. According to DefiLlama, ether.fi’s staking arm now holds $3.3 billion, down from a peak of $12.43 billion in August 2025, while only 9,136 weETHs tokens worth roughly $18 million are in circulation. The protocol’s own slashing-risk documentation says that as of August 2026, less than 1% of ether.fi assets remain restaked with EigenLayer, down from about half in early 2026, with that share expected to fall to zero in the third quarter of 2026. ether.fi also says it plans to remove EigenPod withdrawal credentials from validators by the fourth quarter of 2026, cutting its last structural tie to EigenLayer. The shift comes as the broader liquid restaking sector continues to contract and as ETHFI and EIGEN both trade well below prior highs.
