Morgan Stanley Plans to Bring Bitcoin and Crypto Trading to E*Trade Retail Clients in 2026

Morgan Stanley is preparing to introduce cryptocurrency trading for retail customers on its E*Trade platform in the first half of 2026, starting with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. The move signals a deeper push by a major Wall Street institution into digital assets, not merely as a trading feature but as part of a broader wealth management strategy. According to reports, the bank will work with Zerohash for liquidity, custody, and settlement, and has also taken an investment stake in the infrastructure provider, which recently raised $104 million at a $1 billion valuation. Morgan Stanley executives have framed crypto trading as only the beginning, with longer-term plans that include a full wallet solution, custody capabilities, and tokenization of traditional financial assets such as stocks, bonds, and cash. The firm is also reportedly preparing a crypto-inclusive asset allocation strategy with suggested portfolio exposure ranging from zero to a few percentage points depending on client goals. In the context of a more favorable regulatory stance under the Trump administration, and with competitors such as Charles Schwab exploring similar offerings while Robinhood already generated more than $600 million from crypto trading last year, Morgan Stanley’s expansion highlights how digital assets are moving further into mainstream brokerage and wealth management infrastructure.
