Zcash hits an eight-year high as Winklevoss twins tie its case to the rise of AI

Privacy coin Zcash climbed into the $836 to $857 range, reaching an eight-year high and extending its gain for the year to more than fourfold, according to Techub News. The move came as Gemini founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss made a series of recent comments linking Zcash’s long-term value directly to the development of artificial intelligence. The twins argued that anyone bullish on AI should also be bullish on Zcash, saying private money will be critical in an era of superintelligence to guard against AI-driven financial surveillance. They also pointed to ZEC’s capped supply of 21 million coins, adding that the number of whole units currently in circulation is even smaller than the global population of millionaires. The report also said Grayscale has converted its Zcash trust into a spot ETF, which is expected to list on NYSE Arca on Aug. 25 under the ticker ZCSH. Grayscale plans to use 100% of sponsor fees during the 12 months after the ETF registration statement becomes effective to support marketing, development, and education for the Zcash network.

How Zcash Was Recast as an ETF-Ready Asset for Wall Street

Grayscale’s latest filing for a spot Zcash exchange-traded fund has pushed ZEC back into the center of crypto markets, but the case presented here is not that Wall Street suddenly embraced privacy coins. The argument is narrower and more structural: Zcash was easier to package than most privacy-focused assets because it always had the kind of institutional footprint that finance can work with. From Electric Coin Company and venture backing, to the Founder’s Reward, the Development Fund, the Zcash Foundation, Grayscale’s long-running trust, Coinbase’s multi-layer role, and the reorganization that removed automatic protocol payouts to ECC and the foundation, the asset developed inside a framework that could eventually be adapted to regulated financial rails. The SEC’s closure of its investigation into the Zcash Foundation in January 2026 did not amount to a declaration that Zcash was risk-free, but it did remove a major overhang. By the time Grayscale moved to convert its trust, the market also had derivatives infrastructure, a more permissive policy backdrop, NYSE Arca’s generic listing standards, and fresh miner and capital commitments from firms tied into the same network. In that reading, the Zcash ETF push is less about privacy being endorsed and more about privacy being turned into a tradable, custodial, auditable financial exposure.

ChainFeeds roundup tracks on-chain privacy, Uniswap’s Robinhood Chain launchpad clues, and Cloudflare’s AI wallet push

ChainFeeds’ Aug. 5 research roundup brought together five separate crypto narratives that now sit close to the center of the market. One piece from IOSG Ventures framed blockchain privacy around a basic question — where the secret is kept — and compared Zcash, Monero, and Canton as three different answers. Another post argued that pools.trade appears to be Uniswap’s own user-facing launchpad on Robinhood Chain, with on-chain infrastructure already live even though the product has not formally opened. A third report said Strategy’s recent BTC sale and MSTR issuance were not used to add to its bitcoin holdings, but to support STRC, repay obligations tied to preferred stock, and expand dollar reserves. A fourth essay from imToken linked stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets, prediction markets, and agentic payments as parts of a broader financial stack that is finally connecting. The fifth piece focused on Cloudflare Wallets, which is built for AI agents rather than retail crypto users, using stablecoins, x402, and wallet-linked identity to let software pay for data, APIs, and online services under preset rules.

BitMEX and BitMart shutdowns put proof-of-reserves back at the center as users reassess exchange risk

Two exchange shutdown announcements in one week and a separate wallet depletion case in Europe have pushed a familiar question back to the front of the crypto market: are customer assets really still sitting on the exchange? BitMEX said on July 23 that it will shut its platform on Sept. 23 and stop new user registrations immediately, ending an 11-year run. Three days later, BitMart said it had begun an orderly liquidation, will halt all trading on Aug. 26, and expects to complete the process by Jan. 31, 2027. Its exchange token BMX fell 81.5% over the week following the announcement. The article also points to Zondacrypto, where a hot wallet’s BTC balance fell from 55.7 BTC to 0.086 BTC in April 2026, a 99.7% drop, while the platform continued to claim solvency. Around 30,000 users were affected. Against that backdrop, the report lays out what a complete proof-of-reserves system should include, why Merkle tree-based verification matters, where snapshot-based disclosures fall short, and how exchanges including Binance, OKX, Kraken and Ourbit approach reserves verification, audits and security disclosures.

Zcash Explained: How the Privacy Coin Works, What Changed in 2026, and Why It Still Matters

Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that launched in October 2016 with a design intended to hide the sender, recipient, and amount of a transaction while still allowing the network to verify that the payment is valid. Built by the Electric Coin Company and rooted in academic cryptography research, Zcash uses zk-SNARKs to enable shielded transfers, while also supporting transparent transactions similar to Bitcoin. Like Bitcoin, it has a capped supply of 21 million coins and follows a four-year halving cycle. The project has gone through several major technical milestones, including Sapling, Blossom, Network Upgrade 5, Orchard, and most recently Ironwood. In 2026, Zcash faced one of the most serious episodes in its history after a critical counterfeiting vulnerability was discovered in the Orchard shielded pool. Developers coordinated a confidential emergency response, disclosed the issue in June, and later activated Ironwood in July to retire Orchard, contain any possible counterfeit coins, and add new supply-verification and quantum-resistant features. Zcash also remains at the center of debates over privacy, regulation, and exchange listings. Regulators have long scrutinized privacy coins, yet Zcash’s optional transparent mode has helped it remain listed on more major platforms than some rivals. At the same time, the network is navigating leadership turnover, funding debates, software migration, and its next halving, all of which will shape its next phase.
