Arsenal's appeal against Max Dowman's sending-off in the Carabao Cup loss at Fleetwood was rejected, leaving him suspended for three matches. The 16-year-old midfielder was dismissed for violent conduct.
Appeal rejected
Arsenal appealed Dowman's red card on Wednesday, but the decision was not overturned. Dowman will now miss three matches.
What happened at Fleetwood
Dowman was shown a straight red card in the 85th minute after reacting to a heavy challenge by Fleetwood's Harrison Neal. Although Dowman did not fully kick out, his foot did make contact with Neal.
The game finished 1-1 before Fleetwood beat Arsenal 5-3 on penalties.
Arteta's comments
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after the game: "When we prepared the context of the match, we were very clear on the things to respect, the things that emotionally we have to dominate. It was very clear."
Arsenal's next game
It was Dowman's second red card, having also been sent off while representing England's Under-19s. Bukayo Saka, Christos Tzolis and Noni Madueke are currently out injured, and Arsenal return to Premier League action away to Liverpool on Sunday.
