Atletico Madrid are managing “Cuti” Romero's fitness before facing Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the same week. GOAL, citing Marca, reported that Diego Simeone faces a dilemma over Cuti Romero that could decide the outcome of both fixtures.
Two major fixtures in one week
Bayern visit the Spanish capital on Tuesday 3 November in the Champions League. Atletico then play Barcelona on Sunday in matchday 12 of La Liga.
Romero's return and training status
Romero returned to the squad for Saturday's match against Levante after recovering from physical problems that kept him out against Stuttgart and Deportivo La Coruña. He did not play in the win over Levante.
On Monday 2 November, Romero trained in the gym again, as he had the day after the Levante match. He missed the on-pitch work in Monday's session.
Simeone's decision
GOAL reported that every sign points to Simeone not risking Romero against Bayern Munich, though a few minutes off the bench remain possible. GOAL also reported that Simeone may keep Romero back for Sunday against Barcelona.
The club's approach
The club want to avoid any physical setback during the week. Having Romero available is a boost for Atletico before the two matches.
