Flashscore published an analysis of INEOS's recruitment at Manchester United after the group became a minority owner in February 2024. The piece set out signings across multiple windows and changes in the sporting structure.
First summer after the stake purchase
Flashscore said INEOS bought a 27.7% stake in Manchester United in February 2024. Flashscore said Erik ten Hag was the manager at that point, and that INEOS signed Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte in their first summer window.
Changes in leadership
Flashscore said control shifted from Ten Hag to the Sporting Director Dan Ashworth. Flashscore also said that by the following summer Manchester United were coached by Ruben Amorim and Jason Wilcox was the new Sporting Director. Flashscore said the club backtracked on Dan Ashworth five months after hiring him.
Attack rebuilt for summer 2025
Flashscore said Manchester United funded £220m in player signings by loaning out Marcus Rashford to Barcelona and receiving various sell-on fees. Flashscore said the plan for summer 2025 was to fix the attack, and that Manchester United signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens for a combined £220m or thereabouts.
Midfield focus and season outcome
Flashscore said Carrick came in as interim boss after the club decided not to stick with Amorim in January this year. Flashscore said Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada turned their attention to midfield in the summer just gone, with Manchester United signing Youri Tielemans for £35m after triggering his release clause, Carlos Baleba for £70m from Brighton, and Andrey Santos for a reported £50m. Flashscore said Carrick turned Manchester United's 2025/26 season around by securing a top three finish and Champions League football.
