AC Milan striker Goncalo Ramos said he had wanted to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January, but the move only happened in the summer.

AC Milan striker Goncalo Ramos said he had wanted to leave Paris Saint-Germain in January, but leaving then was more complicated and the move only happened in the summer. Speaking to Canal 11 on the programme Soltinho pelo mundo, he described the process and his situation at Milan.

Why the January move did not happen

Ramos said: "I wanted to leave PSG, but it's always more complicated in January. It wasn't the best option, even though I wanted to leave in January. I understand better now. PSG said no straight away; they would have had to find someone else."

Ramos said Luis Campos then assured him he would be allowed to leave in the summer.

He also said: "It was difficult for me to leave PSG because the group was really fantastic. There were the three Portuguese I spent all my time with."

Football Italia reported that Ramos had grown frustrated at the lack of regular playing time under Luis Enrique at PSG.

Ramos said it was frustrating that after scoring in four or five games in a row, he did not start any of them.

His situation at Milan

Ramos said: "My life is happy, in a serene atmosphere. I play more, at a club that gives me more space to express myself."

He said he is enjoying everything at Milan and that the situation is completely different because he is playing with the number 9 and fulfilling his role.

He also said that at PSG he did not play in his position, while at Milan he can do what he is good at.

Amorim's role in the move

Ramos said: "So, during the World Cup, Milan showed interest in me: Ruben called me and made it clear he wanted me, I was his choice. He told me we could achieve great things together. I thanked him for his trust."

He added that he asked national-team team-mates who had been coached by Amorim about him and they gave good feedback.
