Ahead of Milan's derby della Madonnina against Inter on Saturday 31 October, Milan owner Gerry Cardinale discussed Ruben Amorim, January transfer plans and the club's head of football role. He said he has full faith in Amorim and that Milan will continue to strengthen the squad in January.
Full backing for Amorim
Cardinale said: "Yes, and I have full faith in him. At the end of Top Gun, ‘my’ movie, Tom Cruise says a great line: ‘I’m not leaving my wingman.’ And I’m not leaving Ruben."
January market plans
Cardinale said: "That’s why in January we’ll continue to be aggressive and opportunistic in the market, and I’ll continue to strengthen our bench."
Head of football talks continue
Cardinale said: "I’m not close to an announcement, and I’m in no rush. Choosing the head of football is one of the most important things following this summer’s transition, when I sacked everyone and took over running the club. I’m talking with Krösche and with other people, the best in football."
Football Italia reported that multiple sources claim German director Krösche is close to agreeing to become Milan's new Head of Football. SempreMilan reported that Cardinale hand-picked Amorim as the successor to Massimiliano Allegri at the start of the summer.
Stadium and arena projects
After attending the event at which Milan and Inter unveiled their new stadium, Cardinale said the project had been worked on for four years and called the new San Siro a key milestone for Italy.
Cardinale said: "We have everything in place to begin work on a 20,000-seat NBA Europe arena. We want to be involved with a franchise in Milan. I also have ambitions in tennis."
GOAL reported that Cardinale outlined plans to build an arena in the San Donato area, with an eye to joining NBA Europe.
