Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka was stretchered off in tears against Monza, and Football Italia said Napoli have since confirmed a low-grade ankle injury.

Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka suffered a suspected ankle injury in the first half of the Serie A match against Monza and was stretchered off.

Injury in the first half

Lobotka suffered the injury during the first half of the Serie A game against Monza. Football Italia said it happened in the 15th minute of the away match at Monza.

Stretchered off

Lobotka was stretchered off, practically in tears. Billy Gilmour replaced him.

Hospital checks

Football Italia, attributing Sky Sport Italia and Gazzetta, said Lobotka was quickly taken to the hospital for X-rays to assess his injury.

Official diagnosis

Football Italia said Napoli confirmed in an official statement that Lobotka's exams showed an "injury to the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis without instability, associated with a low-grade injury to the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) in his left ankle". Football Italia said reports in Italy put him out of action for four to eight weeks, and that the reports on his recovery time are mixed: Corriere dello Sport said he will need at least one month to return, while other outlets including TMW said it may take up to two months to regain full fitness.

Season stats

Lobotka has scored one goal in eight Serie A appearances under Massimiliano Allegri this season. Allegri was serving the first of a two-game ban.
