Kees Luijckx criticised Wout Weghorst on 1Twente's Voetbaltijd after Twente's 2-0 win at AZ left the club fourth in the Eredivisie.

Kees Luijckx criticised FC Twente striker Wout Weghorst on the Voetbaltijd talk show on 1Twente. Twente's 2-0 win in Alkmaar on Sunday left the club fourth in the Vriendenloterij Eredivisie, four points behind leaders Feyenoord.

Luijckx's assessment

Luijckx compared Weghorst with Lucas Vennegoor of Hesselink, who scored against AZ in the 2-0 win on Sunday. The former defender said: "Weghorst only runs for himself. Vennegoor creates a lot of space with his runs."

The North Holland analyst said: "He's selfish. He wants to reach fifteen or twenty goals himself. He works hard, but little comes of it."

Substitution against AZ

After around 70 minutes against AZ on Sunday, John van den Brom took Weghorst off, and Weghorst was visibly unhappy. Without Weghorst, Twente went on to win 2-0, partly thanks to a goal from Vennegoor of Hesselink.

Weghorst's numbers

Weghorst has made 17 appearances for Twente, scoring seven goals and providing five assists. His contract at the Grolsch Veste has almost two years left to run.

Luijckx said: "When I look at him now, it all looks very laboured. He really has to dig deep. But look at the focus he brings to matches."

Twente's league position

Twente sit fourth in the Vriendenloterij Eredivisie after their win in Alkmaar. After 10 rounds, Twente are four points behind leaders Feyenoord.
