Manchester United's squad were booed by train passengers on Friday during their journey to London ahead of Saturday lunchtime's match at Chelsea. The players, manager Michael Carrick and backroom staff were travelling for the fixture at Stamford Bridge when severe road traffic disrupted their route to Stockport station.
Booing as the squad boarded
When the players boarded after a seven-minute delay, they were met by boos from passengers. GOAL reported that, to ensure the travelling party did not miss their connection, the London-bound service originating from Manchester Piccadilly was held at the platform.
GOAL, citing the Mirror, reported that Carrick was greeted with cheers by those on board.
Reaction after the Bournemouth defeat
Manchester United lost 3-0 to Bournemouth on Sunday. After the defeat, supporters booed the players as they left the pitch and chanted Carrick's name.
The Bournemouth loss extended Manchester United's run to eight matches without a victory across all competitions, and they had managed just a single Premier League win this term.
Carrick's comments on Thursday
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Carrick said: "I don't need any assurances from anyone."
He added: "I totally get the position. I understand the job. I understand the responsibilities. I understand what comes with that."
Carrick also said: "I care about what the supporters think, I care about what it feels like in the stadium and them travelling for games to us to come and see us and support us."
He said: "I genuinely don't take any notice of anything else. I know this job, I know what it brings, I know what we need to do, really, to be better."
Saturday's fixture
