CaughtOffside reported that Manchester United are ready to rival Chelsea for the potential £70m transfer of Barcelona attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez. The outlet also said Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are really keen on Lopez.
Interest from three clubs
CaughtOffside said, via its Daily Briefing earlier that week, that it was its understanding that Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are really keen on Lopez and could pay big to sign him. The Daily Mail, as cited by CaughtOffside, claimed Manchester United could also join Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in making a move for Lopez.
Barcelona sale pressure
CaughtOffside said sources had suggested there is pressure on Barcelona to sell players because of their financial situation, which could mean Lopez is allowed to leave if a good enough offer comes in.
United financial concern
CaughtOffside said one concern is that Manchester United also have financial concerns of their own, so it remains to be seen if the ownership will allow the funds required to sign Lopez.
Lopez profile
CaughtOffside described Lopez as a Spain international. It said Lopez became a regular in Barcelona's senior side in the 2023/24 season, has made 148 appearances for the club and scored 37 goals, and has four goals and three assists already this season. CaughtOffside added that he can play as a winger or central attacking midfielder.
