NEC drew 2-2 with FC Groningen on Sunday after coming back from 0-2 down at half-time. Groningen had gone into the break two goals ahead through Brynjólfur Willumsson.
Groningen build a two-goal lead
Groningen opened the scoring after 10 minutes from a corner, with Marco Rente heading the ball on to the far post and Willumsson heading home. Thom van Bergen scored on the counter-attack, but the officials ruled out his goal for offside. Groningen then doubled their lead when Ahmetcan Kaplan misjudged a cross from Van Bergen and Willumsson took advantage.
NEC respond after the break
NEC pulled a goal back a minute after changes made 10 minutes into the second half, when Bischof broke away, cut inside and fired into the far corner after an intervention by Darko Nejasmic. Lebreton made it 2-2 in the 70th minute after capitalising on poor defending by Groningen.
Late chance and earlier result
Pelle Clement had Groningen's best chance in the closing stages but could not quite get enough on the ball. Dick Schreuder had watched his side claim a 2-4 win away to Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.
