Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are reported to be interested in Barcelona attacking midfielder Fermin Lopez, with Barcelona said to want €100m (£84m) or more before selling him. The situation places Lopez on the radar of two major clubs.
Interest from Chelsea and PSG
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are both said to be eager to sign Fermin Lopez. CaughtOffside claimed Barcelona “would prefer not to sell” Fermin Lopez but “would have to consider big offers” because of their ongoing financial problems.
Valuation and possible offer
A source quoted in the report said Paris Saint-Germain are preparing an offer worth around €80 million (£67m) for Fermin Lopez. Barcelona are said to want €100m (£84m) or more to sell Fermin Lopez.
Chelsea's position
CaughtOffside claimed Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are both “paying close attention” to Fermin Lopez’s situation and could test Barcelona’s resolve with big offers next year. The report said Chelsea hold long-term interest in Fermin Lopez and approached Barcelona over his availability in the summer of 2025.
What has been said about Lopez
During an appearance on talkSPORT in September, European football expert Andy Brassell said of Lopez: “I think back to Hansi Flick’s first season. I went to the game where they beat Bayern 4-1 in the Champions League. He was the best player on the pitch in that, he was unbelievable.”
Brassell also said: “He does that Frank Lampard thing of getting into the box late. If you think of all those other players that can do that, and have been able to do that over the years, he’s got superior technical ability to any of them. The mobility is incredible, the engine is incredible.”
Journalist and commentator Kevin Hatchard said: “He’s just a phenomenal footballer and really underrated. I think if you ask most people to name a load of Barcelona stars, he wouldn’t be that high on that list.”
Hatchard also said: “But I think he’s getting better and better all the time, and he’s a player that I think… not Lamine levels, but I think he’s a top, top player.”
