The RFEF moved 24 postponed Copa del Rey first-round ties to dates between 29 October and 13 November after the rail crash near Urda.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation rescheduled the 24 Copa del Rey first-round ties postponed after the rail crash in Toledo province, with matches spread across 29 October to 13 November. It had called off every first-round tie set for the evening of 28 October, and all other matches in competitions organised by the RFEF were also postponed.

Revised cup schedule

The decision was taken out of respect for the victims of the rail crash in Toledo province. The national first round had originally been pencilled in for a single evening, 28 October, when the season’s fixtures were drawn up, and the 2026/27 calendar had set the Copa del Rey second round for 2 December.

Crash and investigation

A Renfe high-speed train and an Iryo high-speed train collided near Urda station. Público reported that the crash killed 68 people and injured 80. An investigating judge at the court in Orgaz has ordered the first inquiries into what caused the collision.

Other competitions affected

The federation also postponed the nine first-round matches of the futsal Copa de España. The futsal draw planned for 16:00 on 29 October was cancelled. Valencia, Betis, Alavés, Celta and Levante were the top-flight clubs due in cup action on 28 October.

Selected new dates

Anaitasuna host Alavés at 19:00 on Tuesday 3 November, while Levante travel to CD Tarancón on Thursday 5 November. Mallorca’s tie at CD Alcoyano kicks off at 21:00 on Thursday 5 November, and COPE’s list of the rearranged ties records Mallorca as a Segunda División side, not a top-flight one. Celta close the round away to Salamanca at 21:00 on Friday 13 November, and Valencia, Betis and Celta will now play their ties during the November international break.
