Roma faced a goalkeeper injury crisis before their away Champions League game at Manchester United on 3 November, with Pierluigi Gollini increasingly doubtful because of back pain. Coach Gasperini was to make a decision at 18:00 CET, 17:00 GMT.
Gollini's fitness doubt
According to the latest report from Sky Sport Italia, Gollini was increasingly unlikely to feature at Old Trafford on 3 November. If he was ruled out, Roma would have only two options in goal.
Vasquez among the options
The third-choice keeper is Colombian Vasquez, who was reintroduced to Roma's Champions League squad a few weeks ago after first-choice keeper Mile Svilar sustained a foot injury. Vasquez is a former Milan and Empoli goalkeeper.
Sky Sport Italia noted that last season Gasperini froze Vasquez out of the team, sending him on loan to Besiktas in the second half of the campaign. As Sky and Sport Mediaset report, Vasquez would not necessarily start in goal for Roma on 3 November if Gollini was ruled out.
De Marzi's profile
Roma's other option was 19-year-old Giorgio De Marzi. De Marzi and Vasquez had not yet played a competitive match for Roma.
De Marzi was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He holds dual Italian-American citizenship because he was raised in San Cesareo, near Rome. He has one appearance for the U20 USA national team. De Marzi has been playing in the Roma youth sector since the age of 14, and he was called up to the senior Roma team for the first time in December 2024, for an away game at Milan.
