After GOAL said an independent commission found Manchester City guilty of 114 out of 115 Premier League financial charges, Sheikh Mansour injected a fresh £100 million into Manchester City's parent company City Football Group. Recent Companies House filings revealed the creation of over 11.3 million new shares to generate the capital.
New shares and buyer
The Mirror reported that Sheikh Mansour injected a fresh £100 million into City Football Group. The Mirror also reported that Mansour's Newton Investment and Development firm bought the entire allocation of the new shares.
Effect on ownership
The Mirror reported that the share purchase slightly increased Sheikh Mansour's majority stake in City Football Group.
City's response to the ruling
Manchester City maintained their innocence throughout the investigation and confirmed their intention to lodge a formal appeal. City CEO Ferran Soriano also addressed the ruling in an internal message to staff.
Soriano's message to staff
Ferran Soriano wrote: "This has gone for so long that it is important to remind ourselves that the whole Premier League case against us is based on a single false accusation - that the owners' personal money was somehow and secretly put into the club via some sponsors from Abu Dhabi. This is just not true."
In that message, Ferran Soriano said the commission's conclusion was "clearly wrong" and leaned on a Premier League "conspiracy theory".
