Media personality Ahmed Shobier commented in radio statements on 29 October on the round-of-16 group-stage draws for the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup. Zamalek, Pyramids and Al-Ahly learned their groups, and Shobier also gave his view on the qualification race.
Groups for Egypt's clubs
Zamalek and Pyramids are Egypt's representatives in the Champions League. Zamalek were drawn in Group Two with Young Africans, MC Alger and Club Africain. Pyramids were drawn in Group Four with Al-Hilal, Horoya Conakry and Maghreb de Fès.
In the Confederation Cup, Al-Ahly are Egypt's only team after ZED FC were eliminated. Al-Ahly were drawn in Group One with Raja Casablanca, AS OTR (ASKO Kara) and Primeiro de Agosto.
Shobier on Zamalek's group
Shobier said in radio statements on 29 October: "Believe it or not, Zamalek's group is the only one containing four clubs that were league champions last season. Zamalek are the league champions in Egypt, Young Africans are the league champions in Tanzania, MC Alger are the league champions in Algeria, and Club Africain are the Tunisian league champions, so it is a fiery group."
He also said his prediction for Champions League Group Two was that Zamalek would go through, along with either MC Alger or Club Africain.
Pyramids and Al-Ahly outlook
Shobier continued that Pyramids had secured top spot in Group Four, and that the competition for the other qualifying place was between Maghreb de Fès and Al-Hilal of Sudan.
On Confederation Cup Group One, Shobier said: "Al-Ahly and Raja are the closest to qualifying from the group, and do not rule out surprises from Angola's Primeiro de Agosto."
