Harry Kane was named Ballon d'Or winner on Monday at the Palladium Theatre in London, finishing ahead of Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal. After the ceremony, Yamal's uncle Abdul Abdellaoui publicly criticised the decision.
The award result
Brazil legend Ronaldo revealed Kane as the winner. Kylian Mbappe finished second in the Ballon d'Or voting, while Yamal finished third.
GOAL reported that Kane became the first Englishman to win the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001.
Yamal's other award
Yamal secured the Young Talent of the Year award for a third consecutive year.
Abdellaoui's reaction
Speaking to El Larguero, his uncle Abdul Abdellaoui said: "My nephew was amazing, he was the best player in the world, everyone knows it."
He also said: "If you like football, you go to see Lamine, not Harry Kane. Harry Kane is a great goalscorer but Lamine is the best player who shines on the pitch."
What he said about the voting
Abdul Abdellaoui said: "Since Lamine is young, they always say he has time, he's 19, and that's why they're not giving him the award."
He also said: "Harry, with only three days of football left, they're saying, 'come on, we'll give him the award'. He [Yamal] has won the World Cup, La Liga, the Super Cup, he plays really well."
