A wave of AI-assisted video game mod mashups is spreading across social media, with players stitching together titles that normally have no business sharing the same screen. Decrypt reported that gamers are using Claude AI agents to "vibe code" these projects from scratch, often through a so-called passthrough mod that runs two games at once: one provides the world, while the other handles gameplay such as movement and combat. A GitHub guide cited in the report said combining Elden Ring and Spider-Man took roughly three to four hours, while warning that early builds are usually rough. Several examples have already gone viral. One mod drops Skate into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, letting players skateboard across familiar maps. Another places Minecraft inside Elden Ring, adding 1,600 Minecraft items, redstone contraptions, creative mode, mob spawning, and even Black Ops weapons. Creator Toby Jacobs said that mod currently runs on Mac and would need a Windows port before any public release. Other mashups include Spider-Man swinging through Batman’s Gotham City, Call of Duty trickshotting inside Minecraft, and Mario Kart mechanics appearing in Call of Duty: World at War Zombies, complete with bananas and drivable karts.

Social media is filling up with bizarre video game mod mashups that put together titles most players never expected to see in the same build. People are driving Mario Kart vehicles inside Call of Duty Zombies, fighting Elden Ring bosses with Minecraft tools and mechanics, and swinging through Batman’s Gotham City as Spider-Man.

According to Decrypt, these projects are being built with help from Claude AI agents, with gamers using "vibe coding" to create the mods from the ground up. A popular GitHub guide says these cross-game combinations rely on a "passthrough mod," which runs two games at the same time. One game hosts the world, while the other supplies gameplay systems such as movement and combat.

In that workflow, the user tells the AI model what they want, tests the output, and feeds back changes, while the model handles the coding. The GitHub guide said merging Elden Ring and Spider-Man took about three to four hours, though it also noted that first-pass results are often rough.

Some players have described the trend as "one of the coolest things I’ve seen in gaming in 10+ years," while others called it the start of a gaming "renaissance." Here are some of the mashups that have spread the fastest.

Skateboarding in Call of Duty

One of the earliest viral examples combined Skate with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, letting players skateboard across the game’s maps.

One X user wrote, "Imagine hitting a trick shot with this. We will see clips soon, any moment now." Another posted, "This is the greatest thing that will ever happen in Call of Duty."

Minecraft inside Elden Ring

One of the most widely shared examples puts Minecraft into Elden Ring.

The mod does more than swap in Minecraft weapons. Players can teleport with an Ender Pearl, access 1,600 Minecraft items, build fully working redstone contraptions, and enter creative mode. They can also spawn mobs with eggs, which means creepers can be sent to fight Elden Ring boss Malenia.

The mashup also supports Black Ops guns, allowing players to switch between Minecraft gear and Call of Duty weapons during combat.

Its creator, Toby Jacobs, has not released the mod publicly. He said he is open to doing so, but would first need to build a Windows port because the current version was developed for Mac.

Spider-Man swings through Gotham

Another viral mod places Marvel’s Spider-Man in Batman’s Gotham City, in what the report described as a particularly blatant copyright crossover.

One X user joked, "Marvel and DC are friends now." The mod creator replied, "Wait ’til I get a DMCA," making light of the possible copyright issue.

Call of Duty trickshots in Minecraft

Another modder dropped Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 weapons into Minecraft and started trickshotting villagers with the Intervention sniper rifle.

The villagers offered little resistance. The player went on a 25-kill streak and called in a tactical nuke, inside Minecraft.

Mario Kart in Call of Duty Zombies

Players have also managed to bring Mario Kart into the Zombies mode of Call of Duty: World at War. The mod lets them trip zombies with bananas and run them over in karts for kills.

One X user joked, "[We got] Mario Kart in World at War Zombies before GTA 6," while another reacted with, "WHAT THE FCK IS GOING ON."
