American Bitcoin (ABTC), the Trump family-linked bitcoin miner, said on Aug. 3 that president and interim chief financial officer Matt Prusak will leave the company on Aug. 4 and join AI and energy infrastructure firm Giga Energy as chief commercial officer and interim CFO.
Prusak said that after “years of building bitcoin businesses,” he is moving toward upstream energy infrastructure and will focus on power supply issues that currently constrain both bitcoin mining and AI compute growth.
Roles at American Bitcoin and Giga Energy
American Bitcoin was co-founded with the participation of Eric Trump and is backed by Hut 8. The company is a Nasdaq-listed bitcoin miner. At American Bitcoin, Prusak had been responsible for advancing the company’s bitcoin accumulation strategy, including expanding hash rate and increasing BTC holdings on a per-share basis.
Giga Energy is headquartered in Houston and develops power equipment and AI data center infrastructure. The company said it has delivered more than 6.5GW of power infrastructure and is developing more than 500MW of AI data center capacity.
Power supply becomes a shared constraint
The report said industry observers see Prusak’s move as a sign that the bitcoin mining sector is accelerating its shift toward AI infrastructure. As competition in mining increases and margins face pressure, more miners are using their power resources, land reserves and data center capabilities to enter the AI compute infrastructure market.
At the same time, as large technology companies compete for electricity and data center capacity, energy supply has become a core bottleneck for AI compute expansion. Companies with the ability to integrate power resources are drawing more attention.
