Forget about a Lambo and get yourself a Mustang. Classic Recreations, a Yukon, Oklahoma-based custom car builder licensed by Ford Motor Company and Shelby American, has announced it will now accept a variety of cryptocurrencies for its built-to-order, officially licensed vehicles. The accepted digital assets include Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and MTC.

Handcrafted American Muscle Cars

Classic Recreations has been in business for over 15 years, specializing in fabricating licensed Ford Mustang restorations and continuation cars. Each vehicle is handcrafted in-house, taking approximately four months (or nearly 2,500 man-hours) to complete. The company’s high-performance vehicles are built to order, offering a level of customization that appeals to discerning collectors and enthusiasts. Owner Jason Engel stated, “My entire life I have had a strong fascination for technology and its evolution. Cryptocurrencies have come a long way and continue to solidify themselves as a legitimate currency on the global market. The true beauty of accepting cryptocurrency is the universal aspect of it which allows Classic Recreations to connect with consumers from anywhere in the world.”

Beyond Whales: Crypto Car Buying Goes Mainstream

Purchasing cars with Bitcoin has long been a hallmark of wealth within the crypto community, with early adopters famously buying Teslas, Lamborghinis, and even whole fleets of supercars. However, the trend is expanding beyond the so-called “whales.” In Japan, where favorable regulations have made Bitcoin payments more widespread, several automotive groups—including one of the nation’s largest—began accepting Bitcoin for both new and used cars as early as November 2017. Classic Recreations’ move signals that the market for crypto-funded luxury automobiles is maturing, attracting buyers who prefer American muscle over European exotics. The company aims to tap into a global clientele of crypto holders who value both digital assets and high-performance automobiles.

With each custom Mustang representing a significant investment, the acceptance of cryptocurrency provides a seamless way for international buyers to transact without traditional banking delays or currency conversion fees. As the regulatory landscape for crypto continues to evolve, more high-end manufacturers are likely to follow suit. Would you buy a Lambo, a Mustang, or just hodl? Share your thoughts below.
