AI firm Anthropic has released its annual study mapping AI-enabled cyber threats, revealing that about 67% of accounts banned on its platform over the past year were involved in leveraging AI tools to prepare for cyberattacks. According to a Cointelegraph report, the research traced a year-long pattern of malicious activity, showing that attackers are rapidly integrating AI into reconnaissance, attack planning, and vulnerability exploitation tasks.

The findings highlight that AI is making cybercriminals more dangerous by lowering the barrier for launching sophisticated attacks. Anthropic observed that banned accounts often exhibited sudden bursts of activity, using AI to craft and refine attack strategies at scale. The company warned that as AI models continue to improve, the threat landscape will become increasingly complex and challenging to defend against.
The study underscores the urgency of embedding robust safety measures into AI systems. It provides fresh data for the cybersecurity community, reinforcing the need for proactive defenses and stricter oversight of AI usage to prevent malicious exploitation.
