Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has unveiled its latest annual security assessment, providing one of the first quantitative glances into the role of AI in cyber threats. The report found that 67% of accounts banned from its platform over a one-year period had leveraged AI models to prepare for cyberattacks. This stark figure reveals the rapid adoption of AI by malicious actors, signaling a dangerous shift in the threat landscape.

According to Anthropic, the banned accounts predominantly used AI to generate highly convincing fraudulent content, automate vulnerability scanning, and develop malicious code. The integration of AI significantly lowered the technical barrier for executing complex attacks while dramatically improving efficiency and stealth. As a result, adversaries have become more agile and harder to detect, forcing the cybersecurity community to confront an escalating challenge.
Anthropic's deep investigation spanned multiple attack scenarios, including social engineering and ransomware deployment. The company noted that as generative AI capabilities continue to advance, malicious actors are growing more dangerous and increasingly difficult to defend against. Addressing this evolving threat requires not only advanced technical defenses but also heightened AI security awareness across industries and the development of more resilient protection frameworks.
