Anthropic has signed a $35 billion cloud computing agreement with Lambda, a cloud provider backed by Nvidia, according to The Wall Street Journal. Sources cited in the report said the capacity will come from a data center in Nueces County, Texas, built by Bitcoin miner and data center developer Hut 8. Nvidia has already signed an agreement with Hut 8 to lock in compute capacity and will directly hold the lease for the facility.
Under the arrangement, Lambda will install chips purchased from Nvidia at the Hut 8-built site and then provide cloud services to Anthropic. The report said it is not yet clear how much Lambda will pay Nvidia for use of the data center. The structure allows Lambda to secure a large Anthropic contract without sourcing its own data center space, while helping Anthropic obtain access to Nvidia compute resources.
The report also noted that Anthropic faced supply constraints earlier this year. This month, the company also signed a separate $45 billion agreement with another Nvidia-backed cloud provider, Nscale, to rent Nvidia computing capacity at a data center in West Virginia. Hut 8 had previously disclosed that its 700-megawatt Texas campus had been leased in full for 15 years by an investment-grade company, with the $20 billion facility set to deploy Nvidia chips.
