On September 2, Anthropic rolled out its new AI model, Fable 5.1, and says it performs better on programming and scientific work while also costing less to run.
Improved Coding and Scientific Abilities
On the coding side, Fable 5.1 is built to handle long, complicated jobs—software project development, code review, and work that involves an application’s full codebase. Its science skills got a lift too: experimental design, result simulation, and reading tricky charts and data tables. Big, messy stuff.
Cost Optimization: 75% Discount on Re-processing
As for pricing, enterprise users still get the same token rates as Fable 5. But re-processing information the model has already computed now costs 75% less. That step can make up more than half of token usage in long-context, complex tasks, so this cut is expected to bring down total operating costs in a noticeable way.
Security Upgrade and Enterprise Data Storage
On safety, Fable 5.1 comes with an upgraded classifier that is better at spotting risky instructions and cuts down on false positives, which should help users in cybersecurity and biology work more efficiently. And Anthropic says it plans to let enterprise customers keep the model’s data on their own cloud infrastructure instead of Anthropic’s servers, while Anthropic still carries out safety checks.
