Anthropic could launch Claude Opus 4.7 as early as this week, alongside a new AI design platform, according to a report from The Information. The report quickly hit design software names, with Adobe, Wix, and Figma all trading lower in the previous session as investors reacted to the company’s latest product push.
A product aimed at building websites and business decks
The reported design tool goes beyond adding AI features to existing software. Anthropic is said to be building a full-stack application development platform where users can generate executable websites and business presentations from natural-language prompts. That changes the scope of the offering. It points to a system that combines design, development, and content creation in one place rather than a standalone chatbot or a narrow assistant tool.
The platform is also expected to include a unified Claude Code interface, giving engineers and non-technical designers access to the same workflow. That product logic differs from the route taken by established software vendors. Adobe has long relied on its subscription model, while Figma built its position over years in collaborative design. Anthropic’s reported approach puts AI at the center of the creation process itself, not as an add-on layer.
Anthropic’s move goes beyond a model release
Claude Opus 4.7 is one side of the announcement, but the larger strategic shift may be the company’s move from being an AI foundation model provider to becoming an AI application platform company. That would place Anthropic in more direct competition with software firms operating at the application layer, where user workflows and distribution matter as much as model performance.
The pattern is familiar across the AI sector. OpenAI used ChatGPT to reach consumers before expanding into enterprise use cases. Google has pushed Gemini into Workspace. Anthropic now appears to be targeting design and office productivity, a market the report described as being worth hundreds of billions of dollars annually and still open to AI-led disruption.
Investors are reacting to workflow-level competition
The sell-off in design software stocks suggests concern over more than a single model upgrade. If Anthropic delivers the reported products on schedule, the company would be moving AI from a feature layer into the workflow layer. For Adobe, Figma, and Wix, that raises a different kind of threat: competition may shift from who offers the most polished design suite to who can take users from idea to finished output in the fewest steps. The report added that 2026 could become a particularly intense year for incumbents facing native AI challengers.
