Anthropic is rolling out one-time free usage credits for subscribers on Claude Pro, Max, and Team plans, with eligible users able to claim between $20 and $200. The credits must be claimed by April 17 and can be used across Claude, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and third-party integrations, covering all models and features.
Credit amounts match plan tiers
In its April 4 announcement, Anthropic said the giveaway marks the launch of its new Usage Bundles billing option. The company listed four payout levels: Pro users can claim $20, Max 5x users can claim $100, while Max 20x and Team users can each claim $200. Once claimed, the credit is added directly to the account balance and does not trigger a charge to the linked payment method.
There are limits. Anthropic said any unused portion expires after 90 days and will not roll over into a later billing cycle. The offer also cannot be combined with other promotions, carries no cash value, and cannot be transferred.
Users must enable Extra usage before claiming
To receive the credit, eligible subscribers need to make sure Extra usage is enabled. Pro and Max subscribers can do this through “Settings → Usage,” while Team users need to go to “Organization Settings → Usage.” After that setting is turned on, a banner appears at the top of the page. Clicking the “Claim” button completes the process, and the credit is added instantly without any fee.
Anthropic noted that Extra usage cannot currently be enabled through the Claude mobile app. Users must first turn it on through the web version before the credit can be used.
Eligibility depends on an earlier subscription cutoff
According to the company, users must have been subscribed to a Pro, Max, or Team plan by 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time on April 3, 2026, and must also have Extra usage enabled. Even if those conditions are met, the credit still has to be claimed before the April 17 deadline, or it is forfeited.
The move has also been viewed by some in the industry as a transition incentive. That comes after Anthropic said it would block subscribers from using Claude Pro and Max plans through third-party proxy tools such as OpenClaw, with third-party tool access shifting to paid usage credits.
Usage Bundles sits between subscriptions and API accounts
Anthropic describes Usage Bundles as a new billing layer between a standard monthly subscription and a full API account, aimed at users with heavier usage needs. It lets customers buy additional usage without moving up to a developer-grade API plan. For subscribers who rely heavily on Claude day to day, the limited-time credit offers a direct way to offset short-term usage costs, as long as the claim is completed before the deadline.
