Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, sold out quickly after going on sale on Oct. 23 through the company’s website and major retail channels, according to a report by Economic Daily News cited by ChainCatcher. All models were sold out on the first day, with the second wave of shipments expected on Jan. 22, 2027. Supply chain sources said Apple has asked partner manufacturers to speed up production and increase orders by 30%. The report said resale prices briefly reached NT$100,000, about 33% above the lowest retail price of NT$74,900. Industry sources attributed the limited first batch to assembly yield issues and demand that exceeded Apple’s expectations. Market research firms had initially projected this year’s production at 6 million units, then raised the estimate to 8 million to 10 million units. They also projected 2027 shipments could reach 33 million units and said the device may capture about 40% of the global foldable phone market next year. According to supply chain sources, Foxconn is the exclusive final assembler, TSMC manufactures the main processor, and key hinge components are supplied by a joint venture between Foxconn and Shin Zu Shing, with Amphenol as the second supplier. The report noted that these supply chain and market projections are not part of any official Apple announcement.

Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, sold out quickly after going on sale on Oct. 23 through the company’s website and major retail channels, according to Economic Daily News in a report cited by ChainCatcher. All models were sold out on the first day, and the second wave of shipments is expected on Jan. 22, 2027.

Supply chain sources said Apple has asked partner manufacturers to accelerate production and raise orders by 30%. The report said market watchers expect Foxconn, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), and Shin Zu Shing to benefit.

Resale prices briefly climbed to NT$100,000, the report said, about 33% above the lowest listed price of NT$74,900. Industry sources said the first batch was limited partly by assembly yield issues and partly because demand came in above Apple’s expectations.

Market research firms had originally projected this year’s production volume at 6 million units, then revised that figure to 8 million to 10 million units. They also projected shipments could reach 33 million units in 2027 and said the device may take about 40% of the global foldable phone market next year.

According to supply chain sources, Foxconn is the exclusive assembler for the full device, TSMC manufactures the core processor chip, and key hinge components are supplied by a joint venture between Foxconn and Shin Zu Shing. Amphenol is listed as the second supplier. Industry sources said capacity constraints are mainly tied to hinge production and the difficulty of full-device assembly.

The report added that the supply chain information and market estimates cited above are not part of any official Apple announcement.
