Apple is reportedly preparing price adjustments for the iPhone 17 lineup across global markets before the end of August as soaring memory chip prices continue to pressure costs, according to BlockBeats. The report said the increase for a single device may be capped at no more than RMB 1,000, with Apple potentially using the earlier price revision in Japan as a reference point. Apple raised prices for the full iPhone lineup in Japan on July 17, with increases ranging from about 8% to 11.3%. The iPhone Air saw the largest increase at 11.3%, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max rose 10.3%, or JPY 20,000 per unit. Based on the exchange rate at the time, that translated into an added purchase cost of roughly RMB 540 to RMB 835 per iPhone. Apple has not announced an iPhone 17 price increase in China. Still, it already raised prices for products including Mac and iPad in June, with some models up 15% to 20%. CEO Tim Cook previously said the company was evaluating responses to rising memory chip prices, describing the current memory pricing environment as a "once-in-a-century flood" and saying prices had already risen exponentially.
