Arthur Yi, founder of Liquid Capital, formerly known as LD Capital, said doubts about crypto’s value tend to resurface in every bear market, but his long-term view on the sector remains unchanged. In a post published on Aug. 20, Yi argued that crypto’s core value lies in on-chain finance, describing blockchain as a system that is moving financial assets and use cases from the traditional world onto the chain while improving convenience and transparency. He pointed to gold, the U.S. dollar and U.S. equities as examples. In his view, BTC serves as a more portable, easier-to-store and easier-to-trade on-chain counterpart to gold, while stablecoins offer a freer account-opening model and global dollar circulation. He added that traditional assets such as U.S. stocks are also gradually being represented on-chain. Yi said the biggest value of crypto is the freedom enabled by on-chain finance. He also named AI as another major direction in technology, calling it a new opportunity at the intersection of finance and tech. That view, he said, is why he has long emphasized a portfolio approach split between crypto and AI.
Arthur Yi, founder of Liquid Capital, formerly LD Capital, said on Aug. 20 that each crypto bear market brings a new wave of skepticism about the sector’s value, but that he remains positive on the industry over the long run.
Yi ties crypto’s core value to on-chain finance
In his post, Yi said crypto’s core value lies in "on-chain finance." He argued that financial assets and applications already exist in the traditional world, including gold, the U.S. dollar and U.S. equities, and that blockchain is moving those financial scenarios onto the chain while improving convenience and transparency.
He used several examples to explain the view. In the physical world, he said, gold already exists, while BTC functions as its on-chain version with greater ease in transport, storage and trading. For the U.S. dollar, he pointed to stablecoins, saying they offer a freer way to open accounts and enable global dollar circulation. He also said traditional assets such as U.S. stocks are gradually being mapped onto the blockchain.
Portfolio view centers on crypto and AI
Yi said crypto’s biggest value is its ability to deliver freedom in on-chain finance. Separately, he described AI as one of the key directions in technological development and as a new track where finance and technology intersect.
He said that is why he has long stressed a portfolio logic of "half crypto, half AI," aiming to participate in growth opportunities in both on-chain finance and artificial intelligence.
