BeInCrypto has released a report on the state of AI agent payments in 2026, based on tracked activity from the open-source payment protocol x402. The report says that from late July to August 2026, the dataset recorded 6.4 million payments with a combined value of less than $120,000. More than 90% of those transactions were worth under $0.01 each, pointing to a payment pattern dominated by extremely small transfers rather than larger-value usage.
The report also found that Solana handled 99.2% of the transaction volume in the sample, while activity was heavily concentrated. A single eight-day burst accounted for 94.5% of all recorded payments. BeInCrypto said millions of transfers may have come from a small group of active wallets, meaning raw transaction counts do not reliably show how many companies are actually using the technology.
In its readiness assessment across use cases, micropayments received the highest score at 60.7 out of 100. Trading and investment agents scored 39.1, while institutional workflows scored 12. Will Papper, director of product for agent payments at Cloudflare, said the amount of money delegated to software determines the level of risk.

Solana carried most of the activity
In the sampled transactions, Solana accounted for 99.2% of transaction volume. Activity was also highly concentrated, with one eight-day burst making up 94.5% of all recorded payments.
The report said millions of transfers may have come from a small group of active wallets, and that transaction counts are not an effective way to measure how many companies are actually using the technology.
Readiness scores varied by use case
The report assessed how ready AI agents are across different areas. Micropayments received the highest score at 60.7/100. Trading and investment agents scored 39.1, while institutional workflows scored 12.
Will Papper, director of product for agent payments at Cloudflare, said the amount of money delegated to software determines the level of risk.
