The Newton Foundation said a wallet tied to the Binance hacker appears to have mistakenly sent roughly 8 million NEWT, along with 17 other tokens including ANIME, ANKR, ARPA, BARD, CELR, DENT, DOLO, FTT, GLM, HIGH, HOT, KNC, LQTY, RARE, RESOLV, SIGN and WOO, directly to the NEWT token contract address. Based on current prices, the assets are worth about $3.5 million. According to the foundation, the NEWT token contract itself was not compromised. It said the contract was built as an immutable contract with no owner or administrator, that management rights were renounced on-chain in 2025, and that upgrade functionality has been permanently disabled. As a result, no one can recover tokens sent to the contract. The foundation added that the transferred assets are now permanently locked. It said the attacker can neither control those tokens nor sell them back into the market. Newton Foundation also said it has informed Binance of the situation.

The NEWT contract was not attacked

The foundation said the NEWT token contract itself was not compromised. It added that the contract was designed as an immutable contract with no owner or administrator, that management rights were renounced on-chain in 2025, and that upgrade functionality has been permanently disabled.

Because of that structure, no one can recover tokens sent to the contract address. The foundation said the transferred assets are now permanently locked, and the attacker can neither control them nor sell them into the market.

Binance has been notified

The Newton Foundation said it has informed Binance of the situation.
