Binance said it will support Toncoin’s rebrand to Gram and carry out an automatic 1:1 conversion of user balances. Under the exchange’s schedule, all TON-related operations will move to the new GRAM ticker between June 23 and July 2. Legacy TON trading pairs are set to be halted, while new spot GRAM pairs are planned for the first days of July.
The exchange also said it will handle the technical side of the integration directly. For users, the main shift is the ticker and market migration rather than a manual token process described in the notice.
Network update comes before exchange migration
The onchain change is expected to start earlier than the exchange-side rollout. Following a community vote, 81.22% of TON users backed the move to restore the original Gram name. That network update is scheduled to take effect on June 15, after which trading platforms are expected to speed up preparations for their own ticker transition.
This makes the rebrand more than a label change on trading screens. Exchanges, market systems, and participants all have to align their operations with the new naming standard.
Return to Gram revives the project’s original identity
The name carries historical weight. The project traces back to the Telegram Open Network, created by Telegram founders Pavel Durov and Nikolai Durov, and Gram was the original proposed name for the network’s native asset. Supporters of the vote have treated the move as a return to that early identity.
The project’s course changed in 2020, when Telegram withdrew after pressure from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The network was then handed to an independent developer community and continued under The Open Network, with the coin rebranded as Toncoin.
Platforms are not taking the same route
TON ecosystem developers have said the rebrand is cosmetic rather than a technical overhaul, but implementation across the market is not uniform. Large exchanges are preparing for the name change and token swap, while some platforms are using their own technical procedures.
On the decentralized side, the picture is less straightforward. The report says validators on Hyperliquid are set to vote on whether TON should be removed from listing. That stands apart from the TON ecosystem’s position and shows that one rebrand can trigger different responses across trading venues and infrastructure.
What happens over the next few weeks will depend on how each platform executes the transition from TON to GRAM. Binance, for its part, has already laid out a timetable and said user balances will be converted automatically on a 1:1 basis.
