Crypto markets remained range-bound on Aug. 14 even as U.S. stocks pushed higher after a softer-than-expected inflation reading. Bitcoin traded near $63,500 with its 24-hour range compressed to roughly $1,200, while Ether edged up to around $1,888 and most major altcoins posted slight gains. Derivatives data from CoinGlass showed $211 million in liquidations over the past day, split almost evenly between longs at $111 million and shorts at $100 million, with 68,790 traders liquidated in total. The largest single liquidation order was a $1.98 million BTCUSDT position on Bybit. On the macro side, the U.S. producer price index rose 4.7% year over year in July, slightly below expectations. The report said that added support to the case for the Federal Reserve to pause rate hikes in September. The S&P 500 closed at another record high, while the Nasdaq and Dow Jones Industrial Average also finished higher. Even so, bitcoin did not follow equities upward and continued to move sideways, pointing to a split in price action across risk assets.

Bitcoin traded in a narrow band near $63,500 on Aug. 14, with crypto markets showing limited movement even after fresh U.S. inflation data helped send Wall Street higher. The 24-hour range in BTC was about $1,200, while Ether (ETH) edged up to around $1,888 and most altcoins posted modest gains.

In derivatives, total liquidations across the crypto market reached $211 million over the past 24 hours, with losses hitting both sides of the trade. Market sentiment remained in the fear zone.

July PPI comes in below expectations as the S&P 500 sets another record close

On the macro front, the U.S. producer price index rose 4.7% year over year in July, slightly below market expectations. The report said that added support to the view that the Federal Reserve could pause rate hikes in September.

U.S. equities moved higher the same day. The S&P 500 closed at another all-time high, the Nasdaq advanced with support from technology shares, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average also ended modestly higher. Earlier data had shown July CPI slowing to 3.4% year over year, reinforcing expectations that the Fed may leave rates unchanged in September.

Crypto, however, did not move in step with stocks. Bitcoin stayed pinned near $63,500, showing that price action within risk assets remained divided.
