Bitcoin traded in a narrow band near $63,500 on Aug. 14, with crypto markets showing limited movement even after fresh U.S. inflation data helped send Wall Street higher. The 24-hour range in BTC was about $1,200, while Ether (ETH) edged up to around $1,888 and most altcoins posted modest gains.
In derivatives, total liquidations across the crypto market reached $211 million over the past 24 hours, with losses hitting both sides of the trade. Market sentiment remained in the fear zone.
$211 million in liquidations as longs and shorts stay closely matched
According to CoinGlass, total crypto liquidations over the past 24 hours came to $211 million. That included $111 million in long liquidations and $100 million in short liquidations, putting the long-short ratio at about 1.1:1.
A total of 68,790 traders were liquidated. The largest single order was a $1.98 million BTCUSDT liquidation on Bybit.
July PPI comes in below expectations as the S&P 500 sets another record close
On the macro front, the U.S. producer price index rose 4.7% year over year in July, slightly below market expectations. The report said that added support to the view that the Federal Reserve could pause rate hikes in September.
U.S. equities moved higher the same day. The S&P 500 closed at another all-time high, the Nasdaq advanced with support from technology shares, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average also ended modestly higher. Earlier data had shown July CPI slowing to 3.4% year over year, reinforcing expectations that the Fed may leave rates unchanged in September.
Crypto, however, did not move in step with stocks. Bitcoin stayed pinned near $63,500, showing that price action within risk assets remained divided.
Major tokens post small gains, with XRP outperforming peers
Among other large-cap tokens, SOL traded at $76.06, up 0.65% over 24 hours, with price moving in a narrow range between $75.1 and $76.62. XRP changed hands at $1.0124, up 0.88%, and briefly touched an intraday high of $1.0154.
Across the top 10 tokens, price changes stayed within 1%, leaving the market without a clear directional break.
Bitcoin technical levels: below the 20-day average, above the 50-day average
Based on the daily close on Aug. 13, bitcoin settled at $63,491. Its relative strength index, or RSI, stood at 45.6, placing it in neutral territory.
BTC closed below its 20-day simple moving average of $64,072, above its 50-day SMA of $63,442, and below its 200-day SMA of $69,670. The report described the moving-average structure as bearish in the short and long term. MACD stayed in bearish alignment, and the histogram widened from the previous day, indicating stronger downward momentum.
On Bollinger Bands, bitcoin traded between the middle band at $64,072 and the lower band at $62,690. Its 30-day high and low were $66,956 on July 21 and $62,275 on Aug. 1.

MACD remained in bearish alignment, though the histogram narrowed from the previous day, suggesting that bearish momentum had weakened slightly. On Bollinger Bands, ETH traded between the middle band at $1,894 and the lower band at $1,842. Its 30-day high and low were $1,981 on July 27 and $1,803 on July 17.
