Bitcoin ETFs post their best month of 2026 as BTC rises 25% in August

Over the same month, Bitcoin gained about 25%, its best monthly performance since November 2024. The August surge also reduced year-to-date net outflows to $1.77 billion from $5.29 billion, while total net assets climbed to $99.61 billion. September then opened weaker, with ETFs posting $236.46 million in outflows and Bitcoin briefly slipping below $77,000. Ether ETFs turned positive for the year, and XRP ETFs added to their year-to-date inflows.
US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $3.52 billion in net inflows in August, their strongest month of 2026 and a steep jump from $172 million in July, according to SoSoValue.
At the same time, Bitcoin rose about 25% in August, its best monthly performance since a 37.29% gain in November 2024, according to CoinGlass.
The ETF data helped cut year-to-date net outflows by roughly 66%, from $5.29 billion to $1.77 billion. June posted the largest monthly outflows at $4.51 billion, followed by May at $2.43 billion and January at $1.61 billion, SoSoValue data showed.
August also marked a strong stretch of trading for the funds. They posted net inflows on 16 of 21 trading days, including nine straight sessions from Aug. 17 through Aug. 27. Total net assets climbed to $99.61 billion by the end of August from $76.29 billion at the end of July, an increase of about 31%. Monthly trading volume rose nearly 49% to $58.63 billion from $39.37 billion.
The momentum did not carry into September. US spot Bitcoin ETFs opened the month with $236.46 million in net outflows on Tuesday, after Monday’s $216.70 million in inflows. That was the largest daily outflow since July 31, when the funds shed $265.37 million.
Bitcoin briefly fell below $77,000 on Tuesday after trading above $80,000 in late August, according to CoinGecko.
Ether and XRP ETFs stayed in positive territory on Tuesday. Spot Ether ETFs took in about $11 million, while spot XRP ETFs drew $14.4 million.
August also pushed Ether ETFs into positive territory for 2026. They ended the month with $732 million in year-to-date net inflows, after finishing July about $1.12 billion in the red. XRP ETFs reached $502 million in year-to-date net inflows, up about 46% from $343 million at the end of July.
