Bitcoin News said in a post on X that a long-term Bitcoin holder saw all assets withdrawn from an account less than 12 hours after moving BTC to a major exchange in Australia. According to a friend of the holder, hackers had compromised the victim’s Google account for about three months and obtained access to the person’s email as well as Google Authenticator credentials stored in cloud backup. The post said the attackers then waited until BTC was deposited to the exchange. The exchange reportedly identified the hacker as the account owner and approved the withdrawal, with the holder receiving a withdrawal approval notice at 3 a.m. The post also offered security advice, urging users to disable Google Authenticator cloud backup and use hardware security keys such as YubiKey. It added that keeping two keys can provide a backup if one is lost.
