Overview of Last Week's Bitcoin Spot ETF Outflows
Data from SoSoValue shows that U.S. Bitcoin spot ETFs experienced a cumulative net outflow of $1.79 billion over the five trading days from June 22 to June 26 (Eastern Time), reversing several consecutive weeks of net inflows. This marks the largest weekly withdrawal since April this year, suggesting institutional investors are turning more cautious toward crypto exposure in the short term amid macroeconomic uncertainties.
BlackRock and Fidelity Lead Outflows; Grayscale Mini Trust Gains Inflows
Among individual ETFs, BlackRock's IBIT accounted for the bulk of the outflows, with a net weekly withdrawal of $1.303 billion, representing 72.8% of the total. Despite last week's heavy selling, IBIT's cumulative net inflows since launch remain strong at $60.77 billion. Fidelity's FBTC followed with a weekly net outflow of $315 million, bringing its historical net inflows to $10.14 billion.
In stark contrast, Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust (ticker: BTC) recorded a net inflow of $71.7 million last week, making it the only major Bitcoin spot ETF to post positive weekly flows. The mini trust has accumulated $2.38 billion in net inflows since its inception.
ETF Total Asset Size and Market Implications
Despite the sizable outflows, the total net asset value of all Bitcoin spot ETFs remains elevated at $72.82 billion. The ETF net asset ratio (the ratio of ETF holdings to Bitcoin's total market cap) stood at 6.08%, indicating that institutional Bitcoin exposure via ETFs has not materially declined. Cumulative net inflows across all Bitcoin spot ETF products have reached $51.61 billion since regulatory approval.
Market analysts attribute last week's outflow to shifting expectations around U.S. macroeconomic policy and near-term Bitcoin price weakness. However, a single week of outflows does not necessarily alter the long-term inflow trajectory. The resilience shown by Grayscale's mini trust suggests that some investors still see value in adding Bitcoin exposure at lower prices.
