Taiwanese cryptocurrency exchange BitoPro has announced a partnership with Whoscall, the digital anti-scam app operated by Gogolook, to launch a "Virtual Currency Anti-Scam Campaign" aimed at fortifying user protection. The move directly addresses the rising incidence of crypto-related fraud, particularly among older demographics.
Users Over 50 Lose 1.5x More on Average
Internal data from BitoPro reveals that users aged 50 and above suffer average losses approximately 1.5 times higher than those aged 20–40. Most scams originate on messaging platforms, often targeting retirement savings or long-term deposits, resulting in outsized financial damage. The exchange notes that older victims are frequently caught in "compound scams" that combine emotional manipulation with investment pitches. Scammers build trust over time, then lure victims to fake platforms or impersonated experts. Even highly educated individuals can fall prey when they over-rely on a perceived "trusted contact" and skip verification.
Four-Step Framework to Block Scams at the Source
Dubbed the "Four Steps of Fraud Prevention" — Protection, Awareness, Verification, and Reporting — the framework encourages proactive defense. On the protection front, users are advised to activate BitoPro's security features such as Passkey, two-factor authentication (2FA), and anti-phishing codes, while using Whoscall's data leak check to scan personal risk. Awareness comes from reading Whoscall's scam alerts that detail recent tactics. The verification step is critical: users can verify suspicious calls, URLs, or even upload screenshots via BitoPro's official channel checker or Whoscall's "One-Check" tool. Finally, the reporting channel allows users to flag scam cases to protect others.
Extending Defense from Platform to Communication Origin
BitoPro founder and CEO Cheng Kuang-Tai stated that fraud often begins during initial contact, before any asset transfer. Partnering with Whoscall extends the defense line from the exchange platform back to the communication source. Gogolook co-founder and CEO Kuo Chien-Fu emphasized that this is Whoscall's latest foray into the crypto space, aiming to equip users with sharper scam detection skills when dealing with new digital investment channels.
Special Rewards for Users Over 50
March marks the 12th anniversary of BitoGroup, the parent company. The platform is hosting a series of anti-scam tasks. Users who complete security checks and quizzes can earn a limited-edition Whoscall Advanced Plan, which includes automatic number database updates, spam blocking, smart SMS manager, and iOS-exclusive real-time caller ID Plus. Users aged 50 and above directly receive a six-month free code for Whoscall Advanced upon completing designated tasks. Additionally, Whoscall's monthly "Anti-Scam Quiz" in late March will feature a crypto fraud theme, with winners eligible for bitcoin prizes worth up to NT$6,000.
